Whilst we are handing out chocolate and sweets to strangers’ children just because they’ve knocked on our door in a scary outfit, your regular feathered visitors might not see what all the fuss is about. To make sure they don’t feel left out, get them involved with their own Halloween themed bird feeder!

Where do I Start?

If you’re thinking “I don’t have a clue where to start with this!” fear not, we have put together a simply, easy to follow guide on how to make your own pumpkin bird feeder.

First of all, of course, you need to buy your pumpkin. Try to make sure that the body of the pumpkin if fairly round as this helps to keep its balance and also gives a great surface area for your regulars to perch and enjoy their fill.
Making the first cut. For this stage you will need a sharp knife, so be careful! You’ll need to lie your pumpkin onto its side and carefully slice the top off - we suggest about a quarter of the way down from the stalk.
Now for the carving - the messy bit. You’ll need a large spoon (a dessert spoon would be ideal). Scoop out all of the flesh from inside the pumpkin and discard; if you have a compost heap though, make use of it on there.

Time for the treats! Now that you have your empty vessel you can get busy filling it with a mixed bag of treats for you regular visitors; we’d suggest a combination of Wild Bird Mixed Seeds and Sunflower Hearts for Birds As they work especially well together.
