Maple peas are a type of legume, similar to dried peas.
They’re high in protein and carbohydrates, making them an excellent energy source for many garden and aviary birds.
Commonly offered to:
Pigeons / Doves / Game birds (pheasants, partridges)
Often included in mixed corn and seed blends.
Best served dry or soaked (soaking makes them easier to digest).
Avoid feeding sprouting or mouldy peas, as they can be harmful.
Maple Peas as Fishing Bait
Widely used in carp fishing.
Typically soaked for 12–24 hours and then boiled for around 30 minutes until softened but not mushy.
Can be used:
As free bait (loose-fed around the swim)
Hook bait (often hair-rigged)
Mixed into groundbait or spod mixes
Carp like them because they’re natural-looking, nutritious, and highly attractive when prepared properly.
✅ Tips:
Always prepare maple peas before feeding to birds or using for bait — raw, hard peas can be difficult to digest.
Store in a cool, dry place to avoid mould.
