Why is suet good for garden birds?
Suet for birds is often considered a winter treat as it is so packed full of natural fats that help birds make it through the coldest month’s of the year. It does however, provide a perfect meal during spring and summer too. In spring nesting birds need extra sources of fat to provide the energy they need to raise chicks. By summer, those spring chicks will be fledglings that will require extra protein and calcium to build strong bones and ligaments. Just ensure that suet is keep in a shady spot during warmer days. What kind of birds eat suet?
Most garden birds love suet. It may even tempt more shy visitors to your garden too. Wrens and robins enjoy suet and as they tend to like eating from the ground you might like to leave some in shady spots around the garden. See also our Mealworm blend and Insect blend bird foods.
